My app has over 15,000 users. Here's how to not get sued on building an app for the first time. Number one is privacy policy. If your app collects any data and name, emails, device info, you're legally required to have a privacy policy in place. Not having one in place is the number one reason apps get rejected from the App Store and you risk FTC violation. To make a privacy policy, you can use a free generator like Termly or Lubenda and it takes only two to 5 minutes. Next is the terms of use, which is basically your legal shield. Terms of Use or Terms of Service limit your liability and set the rules for how users can use your app and protect you in case something goes wrong. Without having one in place, users can do whatever they want within your app and come after you #3 is data and compliance. Your app is required to declare every single data point that it collects, including analytics, crash logs, locations, photos, anything you can think of. On top of that, if you have any users in Europe or California, you fall under GDPR and CCPA, meaning you have to explain to users why you collect that data and how long you plan to keep it. Violating GDPR alone can cost you a $20 million fine #4 is IP infringement. To avoid naming your apps something that's already trademarked, dual Google search andusetheuspto.gov website to make sure your app is unique. Otherwise, companies can send you a cease and desist to shut down your app. If you need help, come and build and I'll send you my full guide on building and launching an app.
